Hanford, California – Multiple storm waves are expected to move through central California this weekend, bringing the potential for thunderstorms capable of producing strong winds, hail, and heavy rainfall.
According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, one of the storm waves is expected to arrive Saturday afternoon. Daytime heating associated with this system may generate enough instability for thunderstorm development, particularly across the northern San Joaquin Valley and nearby Sierra foothills.
Forecasters indicated that while thunderstorms are expected to be scattered, any storms that develop could produce gusty winds, hail, and locally heavy downpours. These heavy showers may pose a threat of localized flooding, especially in areas with poor drainage.
The National Weather Service also noted there is a less than 2 percent chance of a tornado occurring during this event. While the probability is very low, the agency emphasized that any tornado or damaging wind risk is unusual for the Central Valley.
Outlook graphics shared by the Weather Service highlight the northern San Joaquin Valley as the area with the greatest thunderstorm potential, with lower risks elsewhere across central California.
Residents are encouraged to remain weather-aware through the weekend, especially during the afternoon and evening hours on Saturday when storm chances are highest.
