Grand Forks, North Dakota – Travel conditions across the Grand Forks region may remain hazardous today due to residual slick roads from freezing rain, with additional weather-related travel impacts possible through the weekend, according to forecasters.

The National Weather Service in Grand Forks says that while dry weather is expected Friday, lingering ice from Thursday night’s freezing rain could continue to affect untreated roads, sidewalks, and parking lots. High temperatures today are forecast to range from 17 to 27 degrees, with northwest winds of 10 to 15 mph becoming southerly later in the day.

On Saturday, a slight chance of a wintry mix is expected near the Manitoba border, while much of northeast North Dakota remains milder. Highs are forecast between 20 and 38 degrees, with winds shifting from south to north late as a cold front moves through the region.

Behind the front, Sunday will turn colder and windier. Forecasters expect a chance of light snow, with new accumulations remaining under 1 inch. Despite minimal snowfall, northwest winds of 15 to 35 mph could cause patchy blowing snow, particularly in open rural areas of northeast North Dakota and the Red River Valley.

Sunday morning lows are expected to drop to between -2 and 10 degrees, with afternoon highs only reaching 3 to 13 degrees, increasing the risk of refreezing on roads and reduced visibility in exposed areas.

By Monday, conditions are expected to dry out with partial clearing, though cold temperatures persist. Morning lows could fall as low as -12 degrees, with highs ranging from 5 to 15 degrees.

The Weather Service advises travelers to use caution throughout the weekend, especially during early morning and evening hours, and to monitor road conditions before heading out.
