GIBSON CITY, IL – A fatal car crash Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of Colin Kristensen, a vibrant 17-year-old student at Gibson City High School.

The news of the accident spread quickly, leaving the community in shock and mourning. Gibson City Melvin Sibley Superintendent, Jeremy Darnell, took to Facebook to deliver the heart-wrenching news to the community on Wednesday.

“Colin was an extraordinary young man who excelled in various activities, ranging from sports to agriculture and FFA. He also possessed remarkable technical skills in our performing arts programs,” expressed Darnell. “The sudden loss has left his family, fellow students, staff, and community in deep sorrow.”

Colin Kristensen was a member of the Class of 2024, and his potential and talent were widely recognized by those who knew him.

The Ford County Sheriff’s Office reported that the tragic incident occurred southeast of Sibley at the intersection of County Roads 500 East and 1200 North. Around 3 p.m., Kristensen was driving his Ram truck northbound on County Road 500 East when he lost control of the vehicle. The truck veered off the road, crashing into a utility pole.

The impact caused the truck to roll over multiple times, tragically ejecting Kristensen from the vehicle. Medical responders, who arrived promptly at the scene, determined that he had succumbed to his injuries.

The Ford County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
