Peoria, IL – The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a Dense Fog Advisory and Wind Advisory for much of central Illinois, warning travelers to prepare for low visibility and gusty winds that could create dangerous driving conditions through Wednesday.

The Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday, with visibility dropping below one-quarter mile in areas including Peoria, Bloomington, Champaign, and Danville. Commuters are urged to use headlights, reduce speed, and allow extra space between vehicles.

By early Wednesday morning, a Wind Advisory will take over across the region from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m., bringing west-northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. These strong winds could blow around unsecured objects, down tree limbs, and cause isolated power outages, particularly in open areas and along major highways such as I-74, I-55, and I-72.

The NWS warns that the combination of fog, strong winds, and falling temperatures could make Thanksgiving Eve travel hazardous, especially for high-profile vehicles and those driving at night.

Motorists are advised to use caution, avoid distractions, and stay alert for rapidly changing road and weather conditions as the holiday travel period begins.
