Portage, IN – A tense police response unfolded Saturday morning after reports of gunfire at the 5800 block of Creekview prompted a SWAT deployment and temporary evacuation of nearby apartments, according to the Portage Police Department.
Officers were dispatched around 8:28 a.m. after callers reported an argument in an apartment followed by gunfire. A bullet allegedly traveled through a wall into a neighboring unit, police said.
When officers arrived, they cleared nearby apartments for safety and attempted to make contact with anyone inside the unit believed to be involved. After several failed attempts using a PA system, sirens, and an air horn, the Portage PD SWAT team entered the apartment, which appeared to be partially barricaded.
Inside, officers located a male and female occupant, both uninjured. A firearm was recovered at the scene. Police emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the community and the investigation remains active.
Residents in the area are asked to avoid speculation as detectives continue gathering evidence. An update will be provided once the case is concluded, according to officials.
