Philadelphia, PA – Thunderstorms will move into Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware tonight, bringing the risk of damaging wind gusts during the evening commute and into late night. The National Weather Service warns that storms are most likely between 6 p.m. and midnight, with the strongest activity expected along and west of the I-95 corridor.
According to the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, scattered showers will begin late this afternoon, followed by stronger thunderstorms after sunset. Areas such as Allentown, Reading, and Mount Pocono face rain chances near 70 to 80 percent, while Philadelphia, Trenton, and Wilmington carry around a 50 percent chance.
The main hazard will be damaging wind gusts, which could down tree limbs and power lines, leading to scattered outages. Drivers are urged to use caution on highways including I-95, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and Route 1, where sudden downpours could reduce visibility.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices in case of power loss, and avoid unnecessary travel once storms begin. While coastal areas such as Atlantic City and Cape May may see lower rain chances, inland communities should remain alert.
Showers and storms taper off after midnight, but more unsettled weather is possible heading into the weekend.
