ATLANTA, Ga. – Holiday travelers across Georgia may face stormy conditions as a wave of showers and thunderstorms threatens to disrupt weekend plans and Labor Day events.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, rain chances begin late Friday night with a 30 percent chance of storms after 2 a.m. Scattered showers are expected Saturday, with the highest storm potential Saturday evening into Sunday morning. Additional rounds of rain may develop on Labor Day afternoon, keeping travel and outdoor activities at risk through Monday night.
Atlanta could see highs in the low 80s through the weekend, with storm chances peaking during the late afternoons and evenings. Areas south of the city, including Peachtree City, Griffin, and Newnan, may see heavier downpours during this stretch. Travel on I-75, I-85, and I-20 may be slowed by wet pavement and reduced visibility during passing storms.
Officials urge residents to monitor changing conditions, keep phones charged, and plan alternate indoor activities for holiday gatherings. Outdoor events may face delays or cancellations if storms persist.
Thunderstorm chances remain in place into early next week, with showers possible again Tuesday and Wednesday.
