Baltimore, MD – Drivers speeding and violating traffic laws in Baltimore County work zones faced heightened enforcement this week as Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police ramped up patrols along I-695.

According to the MDTA Police, the targeted operation took place Wednesday and focused on drivers exhibiting high speeds and other dangerous behavior in and around active work zones. Officers from the Central Command Detachment, Traffic Safety Section, and Logistics Division teamed with the Maryland State Police for the high-visibility safety campaign.

Authorities said the operation resulted in 137 traffic stops and a combined 254 citations, warnings, and repair orders. Police also reported arresting two drivers on outstanding warrants.

The initiative, MDTA Police said, aims to curb reckless driving in construction areas where workers and motorists face heightened risks. Officials urged drivers to slow down, remain alert, and obey posted speed limits whenever traveling through active roadwork zones.

“These efforts supplement everyday patrols,” the agency stated, noting that similar crackdowns will continue throughout the year.

Motorists are encouraged to report dangerous driving on Maryland toll roads by contacting MDTA Police Dispatch at 410-537-7911.
