Austin, Texas – Afternoon and evening downpours could bring isolated flooding to parts of Central and South-Central Texas through midweek, with some locations picking up 1 to 3 inches of rain in just a few hours. The storms are expected to be hit-or-miss but could quickly overwhelm drainage in low-lying or flood-prone spots.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, the highest chances for rain will occur each afternoon and evening through at least Thursday, with probabilities near 50 percent in Austin and San Antonio before tapering off slightly this weekend. The agency notes that while rainfall will be scattered, any stronger storm may result in street flooding and brief travel delays.

San Antonio, New Braunfels, and Fredericksburg are among the cities where drivers may face water pooling on roadways during the evening commute. Emergency officials urge residents to avoid crossing flooded roads and to plan ahead for shifting outdoor events.

Temperatures will remain hot outside of storm activity, with highs generally in the upper 90s to near 100 across Austin, Del Rio, and San Marcos. Lows will stay muggy in the 70s.

Rain chances remain in the forecast through early next week, keeping the risk for flooding on the table for several more days.

Five Day Forecast for Austin, Texas:

  • Wednesday: High 97, Low 77, 45% chance of storms
  • Thursday: High 97, Low 76, 50% chance of storms
  • Friday: High 98, Low 76, 40% chance of storms
  • Saturday: High 99, Low 76, 25% chance of storms
  • Sunday: High 100, Low 76, 15% chance of storms
