Indianapolis, Ind. – Thunderstorms and dangerous heat are expected to create hazardous conditions across central Indiana through midweek, with forecasters warning of 100-degree heat indices and storm risks that could disrupt travel and outdoor plans.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, scattered storms are possible Sunday, bringing gusty winds, lightning, and heavy downpours. The most intense heat is likely in southwestern Indiana, where the combination of high humidity and temperatures will drive heat indices to near triple digits.

Conditions remain unsettled early this week. Storm chances return late Monday and persist into Tuesday and Wednesday, especially across western and southern Indiana. Outside of storms, afternoon heat will remain a concern, with highs near 90°F and oppressive humidity.

Travelers on I-70, I-65, and I-69 may encounter sudden downpours and reduced visibility during storms, while power outages and minor flooding are possible in heavier cells. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

The National Weather Service advises that additional advisories or warnings could be issued as storm activity increases into midweek.
