Springfield, Illinois – Scattered thunderstorms could disrupt travel along the I-55 corridor through Tuesday evening, as afternoon and evening storms return to parts of central Illinois. According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, showers are most likely east of the interstate, with a 40% chance of precipitation tapering off by tonight.

High temperatures will hover in the mid-80s, but as storms clear, residents in Bloomington, Decatur, and Springfield should expect rising humidity starting Wednesday. Rain chances drop below 10% midweek as sunshine returns, but the combination of increasing heat and moisture will push highs close to 90 by Friday and Saturday.

Drivers should watch for slick roads during passing storms, especially late today. Keep phones charged and check for updates from local agencies, as isolated storms may cause brief delays or downed limbs. For the rest of the week, avoid strenuous outdoor work during peak afternoon heat and stay hydrated as temperatures trend upward.

The threat for severe weather eases after Tuesday, but sticky, summer-like conditions will linger. Further advisories could be issued if new storm clusters develop late week.

Five Day Forecast for Springfield, IL:

  • Tuesday: Scattered PM storms, high 82–85, low 64–67
  • Wednesday: Partly cloudy, increasing humidity, high 84–88, low 65–70
  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, high 86–91, low 67–72
  • Friday: Mostly sunny, high 87–92, low 68–73
