Raleigh, North Carolina – Drivers and residents in North Carolina will see a brief break from intense summer heat today, as a cold front pushes through bringing cooler, drier air and a chance for scattered storms near the South Carolina border.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, high temperatures will still reach a warm 86 to 91 degrees on Tuesday, July 22. The main relief comes from lower humidity and northwesterly breezes after the front passes, making conditions more comfortable than earlier this week. Widely scattered showers and storms are possible, especially south of Raleigh in areas along and near the NC/SC border—including Fayetteville, Laurinburg, and Lumberton—mainly during the afternoon and evening.

Travelers should watch for brief downpours and lightning in affected areas, especially on I-95 and US-401 corridors. Power outages are unlikely but possible in spots with stronger cells. Residents are advised to charge devices, secure loose outdoor items, and avoid outdoor plans south of Raleigh during the storm window.

Today’s cooler pattern is expected to last only through tonight, with summer heat rebuilding by midweek. More weather updates will be posted if additional advisories are issued.
