La Crosse, Wisconsin – Thunderstorms sweeping across central Wisconsin today could dump up to 4 inches of rain, creating a threat of urban street flooding through 6 p.m. Tuesday, especially in areas like La Crosse, Richland Center, and Prairie du Chien.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, the heaviest rainfall is expected between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., with localized flash flooding possible in low-lying streets, parking lots, and underpasses. A Level 2 flood risk is in effect across much of the southern half of the state, including Monroe and Vernon counties.
Heavy rainfall may overwhelm drainage systems in urban areas, especially where earlier storms have saturated the ground. Officials warn that some roads may become impassable. Primary threats include excessive rainfall, minor flash flooding, and hazardous travel during peak commuting hours.
Motorists are urged to avoid driving through water-covered roads and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions. Residents should secure outdoor drains and monitor local alerts in case additional warnings are issued.
Storms are expected to taper off by early evening, but more rain is possible later this week.
