Houston, Texas – Brutal summer heat continues to bear down on Houston as highs soar to 95°F Tuesday and humidity pushes the heat index past 100°F.

According to the National Weather Service, a slight chance of afternoon showers could bring brief relief Tuesday between 1 and 4 p.m., but widespread haze and light winds will keep much of the region feeling oppressive. Heat index values may reach 103°F, especially near high-traffic corridors like I-45 and the 610 Loop, where concrete and congestion intensify heat retention.

By Wednesday afternoon, a 20% chance of storms reemerges, marking the beginning of a more unstable pattern ahead of the July 4th weekend. Thursday brings another round of scattered storms after 1 p.m., while Independence Day itself stays mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 96°F. That heat continues through Sunday with storm chances gradually rising again.

Residents should avoid strenuous outdoor activity, drink plenty of water, and check on elderly neighbors or pets. Power grids will remain under pressure due to prolonged A/C use, so conserve energy during peak hours where possible.

🔎 Five-Day Forecast: Wednesday, July 2 – Sunday, July 6

  • Wednesday: High 95°F – Haze early, 20% chance of afternoon storms
  • Thursday: High 95°F – Partly sunny, 20% chance of afternoon storms
  • Friday (Independence Day): High 96°F – Mostly sunny, very hot
