Norfolk, Nebraska – Northeast Nebraska is under threat from severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and large hail between 11 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday, prompting safety warnings from local emergency officials.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect for counties including Madison, Wayne, and Dixon. The storm system has already produced wind damage to the northwest and is expected to continue southeast overnight.

Gusts up to 80 mph may bring tree and structural damage, especially in open areas near Norfolk, Wakefield, and along U.S. Highway 275. Hail up to 2 inches could dent vehicles and break windows.

Residents should stay indoors, move vehicles to shelter, and keep a flashlight or backup power source nearby. Campers, truckers, and overnight travelers should be especially cautious.

These storms are part of a broader severe pattern across the Plains tonight. Remain alert for updated warnings.
