St. Louis, Missouri – Missouri enters another day of intense summer heat, with dangerous temperatures and humidity combining for a heat index near 100°F across the state.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday, impacting a wide swath of central and eastern Missouri, as well as parts of western Illinois. Cities like St. Louis, Columbia, Jefferson City, and Alton are all under heightened risk, particularly along I-55 and I-70.

Today’s high in St. Louis is expected to reach 96°F, with minimal wind and heavy humidity creating hazardous outdoor conditions. Health officials urge residents to stay indoors, hydrate frequently, and limit physical activity. Young children, older adults, and outdoor workers are especially vulnerable to heat stroke and exhaustion.

Drivers should avoid mid-afternoon travel, when cabin temperatures in vehicles can spike dangerously even with windows cracked. Avoid leaving pets or people in cars, and check in on vulnerable neighbors.
