Atlantic City, N.J. – New Jersey residents from Monmouth to Cape May should prepare for dangerously high heat index values nearing 109°F through Tuesday evening, prompting a two-day heat advisory from state and local officials.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, the advisory takes effect Monday at 8 a.m. and continues through 8 p.m. Tuesday. Inland areas such as Hammonton, Millville, and Pennsville will see the most intense heat, while coastal cities including Atlantic City, Ocean City, and Long Beach Island will still feel index values around 100°F.

Overnight lows between 75°F and 80°F combined with oppressive humidity mean little overnight relief, raising the risk of heat-related illnesses. Cooling centers may be activated in vulnerable zones across Salem, Cumberland, and Cape May counties.

Health officials urge residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak hours, check on elderly neighbors, and use air conditioning where available. Lightweight clothing, hydration, and early-morning errands are recommended.

The advisory remains in effect through Tuesday evening, with updates expected if power demands surge or heat index readings climb higher.
