West Chicago, Ill. — The West Chicago Police Department affirmed the City of West Chicago’s February 5 statement about its involvement in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities. The Police Department reposted a City of West Chicago Government Facebook post on Friday, June 13.

“This was true on February 5th and it still holds true today on June 13th,” the West Chicago Police Department account wrote.

The City of West Chicago released this statement on February 5, 2025, following “growing concerns” expressed by West Chicago residents over their safety.

“City of West Chicago personnel follow State law (Illinois TRUST Act), and they are not assisting ICE in any matter that is not accompanied by a federal or state warrant, or if there is a criminal investigation being undertaken, when we would be legally obligated to provide support. We are not and will not get involved in any cases related to administrative deportation orders,” the statement said.

ICE is a federal agency responsible for enforcing the country’s immigration laws by removing undocumented immigrants. The agency also supervises and prevents the illegal movement of people or contraband in and out of the United States.

The initial statement from the City of West Chicago Government followed the influx of executive orders from President Donald Trump after he took office in January 2025. Trump’s executive orders related to border policy, vetting and screening for visa applicants and foreign nationals seeking U.S. admission, birthright citizenship, the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, illegal entry enforcement and “realigning” the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. Recently, protests have flared up over the country as immigration raids continue to increase. The protests began in Los Angeles, where Trump sent nearly 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to quell the protests.
