Sioux Falls, S.D. – Scattered showers could trigger weak funnel clouds across parts of eastern South Dakota and southwestern Minnesota through early Tuesday evening, especially near and north of Interstate 90.
According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, a boundary draped across the area is sparking brief funnel cloud development in counties including Minnehaha, Lincoln, Lyon, Nobles, and Pipestone. These funnels are expected to remain weak and not reach the ground.
While no tornado activity is anticipated, residents from Sioux Falls to Windom should be alert. Cities like Brookings, Madison, and Worthington may see isolated funnels appear suddenly during passing showers. If you’re outdoors and spot a funnel cloud, head indoors as a precaution.
These weak funnels often form under similar springtime atmospheric conditions and rarely pose a threat. Still, officials urge the public to take safety seriously if a funnel appears unusually strong or descends lower than expected.
