Sacramento, Calif. – A brutal wave of early-season heat is set to sweep across inland Northern California starting Friday, pushing daytime highs up to 109°F in some areas and offering little overnight relief.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, a Heat Advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. Friday to 11 p.m. Saturday for a broad region including the Sacramento Valley, Northern San Joaquin Valley, and Shasta Lake area. Widespread Major HeatRisk levels are expected, with overnight lows stuck in the mid-60s to mid-70s.

Cities like Redding, Chico, Modesto, and Sacramento could see triple-digit heat during the day, putting outdoor workers, children, and seniors at heightened risk for heat-related illness. With local rivers and lakes still running cold and fast, officials warn that water recreation offers no safe escape from the heat.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit time outdoors, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Cooling centers may open in impacted counties, and car interiors are expected to reach lethal temperatures within minutes.

Heat-related advisories could expand if the ridge intensifies. Stay tuned for updates through Saturday.
