BOURBONNAIS – Conditions are ripe once again this week for wildfires across the Chicagoland area and the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook, asking residents not to burn.
“Combined with the dry airmass, these winds will result in an elevated fire weather risk,” the National Weather Service warned Monday. Winds are expected to reach 30-50 mph this week with temperatures nearly 70 by the weekend.
It comes after multiple field fires were reported during October in Kankakee, Will and Iroquois counties. The warning is issued for portions of North Central and Northeast Illinois, including Northwest Indiana.
The NWS reports the greatest risk will be southeast of I-55 where ‘humidity values will be the lowest.’
