Coffeeville, Miss. – A fast-moving thunderstorm is pelting north-central Mississippi with quarter-size hail and 60 mph wind gusts Sunday morning, prompting an active Severe Thunderstorm Warning through 10:15 a.m. for Yalobusha and west-central Calhoun counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the storm was near Velma at 10:01 a.m., moving east at 40 mph. Radar indicated strong wind potential and hail capable of damaging vehicles and vulnerable roofs. The warning includes Coffeeville, Oakland, Scobey, Tillatoba, and surrounding rural areas.

Winds may down trees and power lines, especially along Highway 32 and County Road 211, where vulnerable infrastructure is common. Residents in Spearman and Pine Valley should avoid travel and move to an interior room immediately. School officials and emergency services are monitoring for potential outages and debris hazards.

This line of storms is part of a broader system affecting the Mid-South. The threat will continue eastward toward Bruce and Calhoun City later in the morning.

More advisories may follow as the storm system tracks across Mississippi. Stay tuned to local weather alerts and avoid unnecessary travel until the warning expires.
