Lansing, MI – Motorists navigating Lansing’s I-496 corridor are facing new disruptions Friday following updated road closures related to downed power lines earlier in the day.
According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, both eastbound and westbound lanes of I-496 through Lansing have reopened. However, the eastbound Exit 6 ramp to Pine Street and the eastbound entrance ramp from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to I-496 are now closed until further notice.
The updated closures come after emergency crews responded to downed power lines in the area, causing temporary shutdowns on the freeway earlier Friday morning. Authorities have not confirmed when the affected ramps will reopen but advised drivers to seek alternate routes and monitor local traffic updates for the latest information.
Detour signs have been posted and MDOT is encouraging commuters to use the MiDrive platform for real-time traffic alerts and updates on the situation.
As always, officials urge caution while driving through affected zones and ask that drivers respect barricades and work crews in the area.
