La Crosse, Wis. – High-profile vehicles and unsecured objects are at risk Tuesday as strong southwest winds sweep across western Wisconsin, with gusts reaching 45 mph through the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, winds will strengthen from 20 to 30 mph this morning to gusts of 35 to 45 mph later today, especially in open and unsheltered areas west of the Mississippi River. Travel may be challenging in affected zones, particularly for trucks, RVs, and vans.
Communities in the Mississippi River Valley—including La Crosse, Prairie du Chien, and Viroqua—could experience sudden crosswinds on highways such as U.S. 14 and Highway 61. Lightweight items like trash bins, outdoor furniture, or decorations may be blown around or damaged if not secured.
Residents are urged to plan ahead and bring in or tie down loose objects. If driving a high-profile vehicle, use extra caution, especially when crossing bridges or driving through open terrain.
Wind conditions are expected to gradually ease after sunset, but advisories remain in place until later tonight. More updates may follow if conditions worsen.
