Las Vegas, Nevada – High winds will slam into southern Nevada, eastern California, and northwestern Arizona beginning Saturday morning, with gusts reaching 55 mph in some desert valleys and mountain areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, a Wind Advisory goes into effect at 11 a.m. PDT Saturday and lasts through 11 p.m. for most regions, including the Las Vegas Valley, Pahrump, Barstow, and Kingman. Southwest winds of 20 to 35 mph, with higher gusts up to 55 mph in the Western Mojave Desert, are expected to cause travel hazards and scattered power outages.
Drivers along US-95 between Indian Springs and Desert Rock should prepare for strong crosswinds, while residents near Lake Mead could see 2–4 foot waves and choppy conditions dangerous to small craft. Visibility may drop in areas like the Morongo Basin and Northwest Deserts due to blowing dust.
Officials urge residents to secure outdoor furniture, avoid unnecessary travel in high-profile vehicles, and remain cautious near trees or power lines. Small boats should avoid venturing onto Lake Mead or Mohave during peak wind hours.
Winds are expected to taper off by early Sunday in most areas, but additional advisories could follow if conditions persist.
