Wichita, Kansas – A stretch of summerlike heat will blanket Kansas through midweek, with temperatures in Wichita surging toward 95°F by Wednesday and little relief in sight.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, a persistent ridge of high pressure is driving a warming trend that began over the weekend. Highs will steadily climb from the upper 70s today into the upper 80s and low 90s by Wednesday, with overnight lows remaining mild in the 50s and 60s. Rain chances are near zero through Thursday across most of central and southern Kansas.
The heat will be most intense across Sedgwick, Reno, Harvey, and Butler counties, where afternoon highs on Wednesday could reach 94°F to 95°F. Residents are urged to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, especially in urban areas where temperatures tend to run hotter.
Although the warm, dry conditions may be welcome for spring events and fieldwork, fire danger remains elevated in open grasslands and drought-prone counties. Officials advise checking local burn restrictions and avoiding activities that could spark wildfires.
The dry pattern is expected to hold through at least Thursday, with the next potential rain system not arriving until the weekend.
