Nashville, Tenn. – Strong storms are taking aim at Tennessee and Kentucky this afternoon, with hail up to 2 inches and damaging winds up to 70 mph expected to hit major portions of both states through 8 p.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for western and middle Tennessee and much of western and central Kentucky. Thunderstorm clusters and isolated supercells are expected to intensify through the afternoon and evening, with the greatest risk for damaging wind and large hail across areas from Jackson to Crossville and Bowling Green to Elizabethtown.

Cities in the path include Nashville, Clarksville, Paducah, and Hopkinsville, where severe storms could down trees, knock out power, and impact evening travel on major routes like I-40 and I-65. Hail damage to vehicles and roofs is also possible.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, stay weather-aware, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. If skies turn threatening, move indoors and away from windows immediately.

The watch remains in effect until 8 p.m., with additional warnings likely as storms evolve throughout the day.
