Nashville, Tenn. – Thunderstorms will dominate Middle Tennessee’s skies through Saturday, bringing slick roads, possible flooding, and dangerous wind gusts to areas along I-40 and I-65.

According to the National Weather Service, Thursday’s storms will intensify through the afternoon, with gusts reaching 25 mph and rainfall totals up to half an inch. Thunderstorms may redevelop Thursday night after 11 p.m., with stronger systems expected Friday into Saturday.

By Friday, a 3 p.m. thunderstorm window could slow afternoon travel across Davidson, Williamson, and Rutherford counties. Southwest winds of 15 mph will continue to push storm cells north, with an 80% rain chance holding overnight into early Saturday. Showers could linger past 1 p.m. Saturday, with another round of thunder possible in the afternoon.

Motorists should avoid flooded roads, especially low-lying areas along the Cumberland River and near construction zones on I-440. Residents are urged to charge devices, clear storm drains, and secure outdoor items ahead of gusty winds.

Temperatures stay mild through Saturday, with highs in the low 80s before cooling down Sunday. The weekend closes with drier, clearer skies by Sunday night and lows near 48°F.
