Grand Rapids, Mich. – Unsecured items and tree limbs could be flying across Michigan by Monday evening, as powerful winds sweep through much of the state from Grand Rapids to Detroit.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Grand Rapids and Detroit/Pontiac, a Wind Advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. EDT Monday for nearly two dozen counties in central, west, and southeast Michigan. Southwest winds are expected to reach sustained speeds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts frequently topping 40 to 45 mph.
Cities under the advisory include Lansing, Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Flint, and Detroit, as well as coastal areas like Holland and Port Huron. Drivers, especially those operating high-profile vehicles, are urged to use caution, as sudden gusts could impact control. Downed tree limbs and scattered power outages are also possible through the evening.
Residents should secure outdoor furniture, garbage bins, and any lightweight equipment. Crews may respond to minor outages, especially in areas where soil saturation makes trees more vulnerable.
This advisory is expected to expire by 10 p.m., but residents should stay alert for additional wind-related warnings or any power restoration updates into the night.
