Albuquerque, N.M. – Drivers across northern and central New Mexico should prepare for slick roads and unseasonably cold temperatures tonight as a late-season winter storm moves across the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, a Freeze Warning is in effect for the Middle Rio Grande Valley, including the Albuquerque metro, where temperatures will dip to 29–32°F overnight. Light snow and rain are expected to continue into Sunday morning, with 2–3 inches of snow possible in the northern mountains and areas along I-25 near Las Vegas and I-40 near Clines Corners.

Snowfall could slow travel across key corridors, especially around Gallup, Santa Fe, and Red River, where winter storm warnings remain in place. Minor to moderate storm impacts are forecast for much of the northern high terrain. Rain and snow mix could persist into early Sunday along the eastern border.

Residents are urged to protect sensitive vegetation, drain irrigation systems, and cover exposed pipes ahead of the freeze. Anyone traveling tonight should allow extra time, check road conditions, and avoid mountain routes if possible.

Winter alerts remain in effect through early Sunday, and additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.
