Greenville, S.C. –Summer is arriving early across the Carolinas, with afternoon highs reaching the upper 80s in Greenville, Spartanburg, and Charlotte by Saturday—roughly 10 to 15 degrees above average for mid-April.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, Saturday’s highs will climb to 87°F in several Upstate South Carolina and western North Carolina cities, including Greenwood, Union, and Concord. Temperatures are expected to run about 5 degrees warmer than Friday and will remain unseasonably hot through early next week.
Cities like Asheville, Hickory, and Waynesville will reach the low to mid-80s, with the heat extending across I-85 and I-26 corridors. The combination of warming temps and rising humidity will set the stage for scattered showers and thunderstorms starting late Monday into Tuesday.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and ensure pets have access to shade and water. Though no official heat advisories are in place, this early-season warmth can still pose health risks, especially for vulnerable groups.
The National Weather Service notes the pattern will likely persist into midweek, with rain chances increasing and a return to more seasonable temperatures possible by Thursday. Stay tuned for additional updates.
