Lubbock, Texas – Severe storms could slam into the eastern Rolling Plains Saturday night, bringing wind gusts up to 60 mph and the potential for golf ball-sized hail. Damaging weather is most likely to develop after sundown and persist through the overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, the greatest risk of severe weather lies east of the Caprock, including towns like Childress, Paducah, Matador, and Guthrie. These areas are under a marginal to slight risk for severe storms through early Sunday, with a greater than 90% chance of precipitation in some counties.

Lubbock, Floydada, and Plainview may also see strong storms with 70–90% rain chances, while areas west like Brownfield and Plains face a lower but still notable threat. Storms could produce wind damage to trees, roofs, and power lines, particularly in exposed or rural areas.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects, avoid travel during peak storm hours, and charge mobile devices in case of outages. Golf ball hail may damage vehicles and crops.

More updates are expected tonight as storm cells organize. Watches or warnings could be issued with little notice. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts.
