Jackson, KY – A late-season cold snap is expected to impact eastern Kentucky, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a frost advisory from midnight tonight through 9 a.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, temperatures may dip as low as 34°F across multiple counties, especially in low-lying valleys where frost formation is most likely. The advisory spans a large portion of the region, including cities such as Pikeville, Hazard, London, and Morehead.

Officials warn that sensitive vegetation could be damaged or killed if left uncovered. Gardeners and farmers are urged to take immediate action to protect tender plants. This cold event comes after a stretch of milder temperatures, making newly planted crops and blooms particularly vulnerable.

The advisory includes more than 30 counties, affecting communities from Fleming and Montgomery in the north to Bell and Pike in the south. Residents in these areas should be especially cautious overnight and into the early morning hours.

To minimize damage, the National Weather Service recommends covering plants with breathable fabric and avoiding plastic materials, which can trap moisture and cause freeze damage.

This frost advisory is expected to lift by 9 a.m. Thursday as temperatures gradually rise, but additional advisories may be issued if the cold pattern persists.
