Indianapolis, IN – A widespread frost advisory remains in effect this morning for much of central and western Indiana, including the Indianapolis metro area, putting outdoor vegetation at risk.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, temperatures across the region dropped as low as 30°F early Wednesday, April 16. The advisory covers more than 40 counties, stretching from Lafayette and Muncie to Bloomington and Columbus, and will remain in place until 9 a.m. EDT.

Communities including Indianapolis, Carmel, Fishers, Shelbyville, and Terre Haute are urged to take immediate action to protect sensitive plants. The frost could damage or kill unprotected outdoor vegetation, particularly in rural and low-lying areas where temperatures are often colder.

Gardeners and farmers are advised to cover vulnerable plants or bring them indoors where possible. This morning’s chill follows an unseasonably warm start to April, making vegetation especially susceptible to sudden frost.

While temperatures are expected to rise later today, additional frost is possible overnight in some areas later this week. Residents should monitor local forecasts and be prepared to take similar precautions during early morning hours through the weekend.
