Charlotte, NC — A heightened fire danger will take hold across western and Piedmont North Carolina on Saturday as dry air and gusty winds sweep through the region. Areas including Charlotte, Iredell, Union, Gaston, and Catawba counties should remain alert, as officials warn of increased wildfire risk through Saturday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, a combination of low humidity, dry fuels, and winds gusting up to 24 mph will create hazardous conditions, especially during peak afternoon hours. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and secure loose materials to prevent potential fire spread.

Temperatures will reach a high near 78°F in Charlotte Saturday, with partly sunny skies and breezy southwest winds continuing into the evening. The fire risk remains in effect until at least sunset Saturday, when conditions begin to ease.

A change arrives late Sunday into Monday as a cold front pushes into the region, bringing a 60% chance of showers Sunday afternoon and increasing to 80% by Monday. Thunderstorms Monday evening could bring damaging winds and large hail. Residents should monitor forecasts closely as severe weather potential increases.
