San Angelo, TX — West-central Texas residents should prepare for a stretch of wet weather beginning late Wednesday as widespread thunderstorms are forecast through Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service San Angelo, rain chances will sharply increase overnight Wednesday into Thursday, with peak precipitation probabilities between 75% and 95% across cities including Brady, Ozona, San Angelo, and Coleman. A cold front is expected to move through the region, bringing the highest risk of storms Thursday afternoon.
Though severe storms are not expected, forecasters warn of gusty winds reaching 55 mph, small hail under one inch, and occasional cloud-to-ground lightning. Marginally severe thunderstorms may develop, particularly in the far southwestern parts of the region such as Crockett County.
Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items, check forecasts frequently, and avoid travel during peak storm hours Thursday afternoon. Most areas will begin drying out by Friday afternoon, with rain chances dropping to 15% or less by the weekend.
This system follows a relatively dry March, and while rainfall is welcomed, localized flooding in low-lying areas cannot be ruled out. Preparedness is key as scattered showers continue into early next week.
