Seattle, WA – A major winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall to the Cascade Mountains, with hazardous travel conditions expected through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Seattle, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Thursday for the Cascades of Snohomish, Northern King, Whatcom, and Skagit Counties. These areas can expect 6 to 9 inches of snow by Thursday morning. A more intense Winter Storm Warning will take effect at 5 p.m. Thursday and last until 5 a.m. Saturday, bringing an additional 12 to 20 inches of snow to the region.
Affected areas include Stevens Pass, Mount Baker, and Silverton, where snowfall rates are expected to increase significantly Thursday night into Friday. The storm will likely create treacherous driving conditions, particularly on mountain passes, bridges, and overpasses.
Travelers are urged to take precautions, including carrying emergency supplies such as flashlights, food, and water in case of delays or road closures. The NWS advises motorists to slow down and use caution, as roads are expected to become slick and hazardous.
Residents and travelers in the affected areas should prepare for possible power outages and difficult travel conditions. Check local forecasts and road conditions before heading out.
