Marquette, MI – A strong winter storm is set to impact Michigan’s Upper Peninsula starting late Monday night, bringing freezing rain, heavy snow, and strong winds through Wednesday night.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 11 p.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Tuesday for Baraga, Marquette, Alger, Iron, Keweenaw, Houghton, Delta, Dickinson, and Schoolcraft counties. Light ice accumulations are expected, making roads and bridges slick for Tuesday morning’s commute.
A Winter Storm Watch is in place from Tuesday evening through late Wednesday night. The heaviest snowfall—between 4 and 13 inches—is forecast in northern Marquette and Baraga counties. Winds could reach 40 to 45 mph, causing blowing snow and reduced visibility, especially in Keweenaw and Houghton counties.
Travel is expected to be hazardous, especially on untreated roads and highways. Residents are urged to use caution, prepare for possible power outages, and monitor weather updates.
