CHARLESTON, WV – A spring storm is set to bring heavy rain and strong winds to West Virginia midweek, potentially causing power outages and hazardous travel conditions. Residents should prepare for gusts reaching up to 40 mph and widespread rain beginning late Tuesday night into Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, showers will begin after 1 a.m. Tuesday night, with a 90% chance of precipitation continuing through Wednesday. Winds from the southeast may reach 31 mph at times. By early Wednesday morning, heavy rain could make morning commutes difficult. Rain may mix with snow late Wednesday night as temperatures drop into the mid-30s.
Thursday will bring a continued chance of rain and snow showers before noon, followed by partly cloudy skies with a high near 42°F. Nighttime temperatures will drop to 29°F.
Looking ahead, Friday carries a 50% chance of showers, with highs in the mid-50s. Saturday will see a slight warm-up, reaching 56°F with partly sunny skies, but rain remains a possibility.
Drivers on Interstate 64 and U.S. Route 119 should be cautious of slick roads and strong crosswinds, particularly on bridges and open stretches. Power outages may also occur due to tree limbs breaking under wind pressure.
Residents should secure outdoor items, check emergency kits, and monitor weather updates as conditions evolve.
