Caribou, ME – A round of snow and patchy fog is set to impact northern Maine on Thursday, with a stronger system expected this weekend. Drivers should be prepared for reduced visibility and slick roads, especially in the morning and late evening.
According to the National Weather Service, Thursday’s snow will begin after 2 p.m., with light accumulations of 1 to 2 inches expected. Winds will increase from 6 to 11 mph, with gusts up to 22 mph, making for potentially hazardous travel conditions. Snow continues into Thursday night, tapering off after midnight.
Friday will see scattered snow showers, mainly before 11 a.m., before partial clearing in the afternoon. However, temperatures will remain cold, with highs near 31°F and gusty northwest winds up to 26 mph.
The more significant concern is the weekend storm system. Snow is expected to begin Saturday morning and continue throughout the day, with a 90% chance of precipitation. This could bring heavier accumulations, making travel difficult. Snow lingers into Saturday night before tapering off on Sunday morning.
Drivers on U.S. Route 1 and local roads should use caution, particularly during periods of low visibility. Anyone traveling should check for updates and be prepared for winter conditions through the weekend.
