CSX Train Hits and Kills 55-Year-Old in East Nashville

Nashville, TN – A man was struck and killed by a CSX freight train in East Nashville late Saturday night.

According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the 55-year-old victim was hit around 9:30 p.m. near the McGavock Pike crossing. The train’s engineer reported seeing a shadow on the tracks moments before impact. Upon closer inspection, the engineer realized it was a person wearing dark clothing lying on the rails. 

Despite efforts, the train could not stop in time. Authorities have found no signs of foul play and are continuing their investigation to determine why the victim was on the tracks. MNPD chaplains are working to notify his family.
