BOURBONNAIS – For weeks, political and local government agencies have pushed messages on voters only to be heard during Tuesday’s Midterm Elections.

In Kankakee County, 54.29% of all registered voters, 35,563 of 65,500 registered, cast a ballot.

No major changes came at the State level with Governor J.B. Pritzker (D) overwhelming defeating challenge Darren Bailey (R). In Kankakee, local voters overwhelmingly supported Darren Bailey (R) who received 59% of all votes cast in the County.

Both Patrick Joyce (D) and Jackie Haas (R) will continue serving their Districts.

Taxes and other questions

A proposal to end Home Rule in Kankakee was overwhelmingly rejected by 3,776 voters.

Bourbonnais voters overwhelmingly rejected a proposition to impose a non-home rule tax on residents to offer tax breaks to homeowners.   With 5,780 votes cast, 3,738 said no to the proposal.

Bourbonnais Fire District lost a bid to increase taxes without raising residential fees.  Had the measure been approved it would have aided equipment upgrades and other services in the district.
