Yuma County, AZ – Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) troopers seized roughly 85 pounds of methamphetamine Tuesday during a traffic stop in southern Arizona, officials confirmed.
According to the AZDPS, members of the agency’s Canine District made the discovery on December 3, 2025, after pulling over a vehicle suspected of drug trafficking near Yuma. Troopers said a police K9 alerted to the presence of narcotics, leading to the discovery of multiple wrapped packages concealed inside a wooden compartment.
Investigators believe the meth was being smuggled from Mexico to the Phoenix area. The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, was arrested at the scene and later booked into the Yuma County Jail on felony charges, including possession and transportation of dangerous drugs for sale.
Authorities said the bust is part of ongoing efforts to curb large-scale narcotics smuggling operations through Arizona’s southern corridor.
“This seizure demonstrates the continued vigilance of our troopers working to disrupt dangerous drug networks moving through our state,” AZDPS officials said in a statement.
The department shared photos of the confiscated drugs and praised its Canine District for the interception.
Anyone with information related to illegal drug trafficking in the region is urged to contact AZDPS or local law enforcement.
