Youngstown, Ohio – A Frost Advisory remains in effect for portions of northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Thursday, as clear skies and calm winds set the stage for temperatures to drop near 35°F, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.
The advisory covers Ashtabula Inland, Trumbull, and Mahoning counties in Ohio, along with Southern Erie and Crawford counties in Pennsylvania. Areas most likely to see frost include Youngstown, Warren, Niles, Boardman, and Meadville, where patchy frost could form on grassy and elevated surfaces before sunrise.
According to the weather service, frost may damage or kill sensitive outdoor plants if left uncovered. Residents should cover flowers and vegetable gardens and bring potted plants indoors overnight. Those in rural and low-lying areas are most at risk for heavier frost accumulation.
Motorists may notice light frost on windshields Thursday morning, especially along I-80 and Route 11. The Ohio Department of Transportation advises allowing extra time for de-icing before the morning commute.
After the cold start, skies will remain sunny Thursday with highs near 60°F. Warmer air returns this weekend, bringing milder afternoons and chilly, but frost-free, nights.
