Yorkville, Ill. – Yorkville police will plunge into icy waters Sunday to support Special Olympics Illinois athletes statewide.
According to the Yorkville Police Department, officers will participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge at 1 p.m. March 1 at Loon Lake inside Silver Springs State Park.
The annual fundraiser benefits Special Olympics Illinois, helping provide year-round athletic training, competitions, leadership development and health education programs for athletes across the state.
Event organizers said pre-registration will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Fox Republic Brewing Co., 101 W. Hydraulic Ave. Participants who pre-register may skip lines on event day but must take a shuttle to the plunge site. Wristbands distributed at registration are required to enter the water.
Day-of registration runs from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. outside Fox Republic Brewing under a white tent. Organizers emphasized that there is no parking at the plunge site. Shuttle buses will begin loading at 12:40 p.m. and run continuously between designated parking areas and the lake.
Participants must raise at least $100 by Sunday to receive a commemorative sweatshirt on plunge day. Sweatshirts are available only to registered plungers and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
The first participants are scheduled to enter the water at 1 p.m., with the event expected to conclude by 2 p.m. A post-plunge celebration featuring vendors, awards and live music will follow.
The fundraiser may draw local students and young professionals participating alongside law enforcement.
