Acton, ME – An SUV ended up partially submerged in Horn Pond on Tuesday afternoon after the driver reported being forced off the road by an oncoming vehicle, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to the scene around noon after receiving a report of a vehicle in the water near New Bridge Road in Acton.
According to investigators, the driver was traveling on New Bridge Road when an unknown vehicle allegedly crossed the center line, causing him to swerve to avoid a collision. The sudden maneuver sent the SUV off the roadway and into Horn Pond, where it came to rest roughly 20 feet from shore.
Deputies said the driver was able to exit the vehicle safely and did not require medical transport. No injuries were reported.
Photos released by the Sheriff’s Office show the SUV partially submerged in the pond with its rear end below the surface and the front end resting slightly higher. The weather was clear at the time, and officials did not indicate that road conditions were a factor.
The York County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who may have seen the oncoming vehicle or witnessed the incident to contact deputies as the investigation continues. Authorities have not yet released a description of the vehicle believed to have caused the driver to swerve.
