McMinnville, OR – The Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents about a recurring phone scam in which callers impersonate local deputies to demand payments or personal information.
According to a public post from the Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, scammers are using tactics such as caller ID spoofing to make it appear that the call is coming from an official department number. Victims have reported being told they missed jury duty, owe fines, or face warrants unless they pay immediately.
“These scammers are not affiliated with our office,” the post reads. “We don’t call you about those things.” Officials added that residents should hang up immediately and verify any contact by calling the Sheriff’s Office directly at 503-434-7506 or non-emergency dispatch at 503-434-6500.
The department emphasized that legitimate law enforcement officers will never demand payment or personal details over the phone. The Sheriff’s Office also encouraged residents to share the warning, noting that even cautious individuals can fall victim to these scams.
Authorities remind the public that anyone who receives such a call should not provide information, but instead report it to the Sheriff’s Office.
