Deputies said that around 7:40 a.m. on December 19, 2025, a 911 caller reported a vehicle that had driven past road closure signage into high water covering SW Dejong Road between Ballston Road and Christensen Road. According to officials, a drone deployed by Dallas Police Department later located the vehicle underwater. Rescue crews from Salem Fire Department’s water rescue team and the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office recovered the victim with assistance from Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Dallas Police Department, Grand Ronde Tribal Police, and Sheridan Rural Fire Protection District.
The sheriff’s office confirmed the man was a 52-year-old from Amity. His name has not been released pending family notification.
