Yamhill County, OR – A 52-year-old man from Amity died Saturday morning after his vehicle was swept away by floodwaters in rural Yamhill County, according to the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said that around 7:40 a.m. on December 19, 2025, a 911 caller reported a vehicle that had driven past road closure signage into high water covering SW Dejong Road between Ballston Road and Christensen Road. Witnesses saw the vehicle carried off by the current toward a flooded area south of the South Yamhill River.

According to officials, a drone deployed by Dallas Police Department later located the vehicle underwater. Rescue crews from Salem Fire Department’s water rescue team and the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office recovered the victim with assistance from Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Dallas Police Department, Grand Ronde Tribal Police, and Sheridan Rural Fire Protection District.

The sheriff’s office confirmed the man was a 52-year-old from Amity. His name has not been released pending family notification.

Authorities warn that many areas across Yamhill County remain under threat of flooding. Officials are urging drivers to never attempt to cross flooded roads and to obey all posted signs and barriers.
