Cheyenne, WY – Early-season snowfall is creating dangerous travel and recreation conditions in southern Wyoming today, as the National Weather Service (NWS) has extended a Winter Weather Advisory for the Snowy Range through 6 p.m. Tuesday.
According to the NWS in Cheyenne, the storm is expected to bring 4 to 8 inches of wet snow above 8,500 feet, while lower elevations will see lighter accumulations. The advisory covers communities near Centennial and Albany in Albany County.
Forecasters warn that drivers should expect slippery road conditions throughout the day, particularly on mountain passes. Those planning outdoor recreation in the Snowy Range are urged to prepare for rapidly changing weather and hazardous conditions. “Outdoor recreation could become dangerous to those caught unprepared for hazardous winter conditions,” the NWS stated.
The snowfall may create travel delays and increase the risk of accidents. Officials recommend motorists slow down, use extra caution, and check Wyoming’s 511 system for live road updates before heading out.
This early taste of winter follows weeks of mild late-summer weather in southern Wyoming. The advisory is expected to expire at 6 p.m. Tuesday evening, though lingering impacts may continue into the night.
