Riverton, WY – A winter weather advisory is in effect for western Wyoming, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds from Friday evening through Saturday night.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton, snowfall will begin at 6 p.m. Friday and continue until 6 p.m. Saturday. Expected totals range from 4 to 8 inches in mountain valleys, with 8 to 14 inches on peaks and passes. The highest elevations in the Teton Range may see even greater amounts. Winds will gust between 40 and 50 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions, particularly on mountain roads.
The advisory covers Yellowstone National Park, the Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains, the Wind River Mountains West, and the Salt River and Wyoming Ranges. In addition, Jackson Hole and Star Valley are forecast to receive between 3 and 6 inches of snow, with gusts of 30 to 40 mph likely reducing visibility due to blowing and drifting snow.
